Maya Chowdhry

maya chowdhryMaya worked as Creative Producer on 90 Degree Citizen. She is an inTer-aCtive artist, Transmedia writer and poet, making interactive theatre and site-specific Installation. Her recent work is immersive exploring the juxtaposition and conflicts of new technologies with the ‘natural world’, utilising film, text, animation, photography, augmented reality and the Web.

She is currently working on ‘Peas on Earth’, research and development project investigating the use of Augmented Reality to produce an immersive live experience. Building on and developing my work created via Divergency, through investigations with technologists, live artists and potential audiences to create a show that capitalises on the best aspects of performance and technology.

Ripple, a collaboration with poet and artist Sarah Hymas, presents works exploring the fragility of life by examining the impact of climate change on the Indian subcontinent. The Installation consists of interactive poetic sculptures, that used augmented reality to illuminate anthropogenic climate change. Exhibited as part of Gaywise Festival 2015 at the Menier Gallery, London. It was shortlisted for the 2015 Dot Award.

She wrote/collaborated on Tales from the Towpath, an immersive literature experience for Manchester Literature Festival exploring the role of the Manchester’s waterways, in collaboration with Helen Varley Jamieson, Michelle Green and Sarah Hymas. Tales from the Towpath was shortlisted for the 2014 New Media Writing Prize.

She is interested in the application of social permaculture in my art practice to interrogate the areas of seed sovereignty and world water scarcity. She also collaborated with artist Àgata Alcañiz on Tearing Stuff Apart, a participatory arts and science collaborating discovering the stories behind everyday products. Her work has been exhibited on canals, in public gardens, theatres, galleries and on television.
